C.H. McCLendon Home | Russell County ALabama| c. 1870
This home is featured in one of my favorite Southern History books, Silent in the Land. It was built in 1870 by C.H. McClendon who farmed the surrounding lands all his life.
After its years as a farmhouse were done, it was used briefly as a hunt camp until It became empty for many years. But upon my first visit in November 2016, I was greeted by the owner who was doing work on the property. He shared with me that he was restoring the home so his family and friends could enjoy it. He was kind enough to allow us to tour the home and take our time capturing the place.
It was one of the most memorable exploring adventures I’ve had to date and I can’t wait to return to see the progress!
