Old Country Store in Upcountry South Carolina

|

Gulf Gas Station | Laurens County, SC | c. early 1900s

This place is like a ‘pickers’ dream come true. Covered on all sides in vintage signage, you can see advertisements from Coca-Cola, RC Cola, 7-Up, Crush, Lucky Strike, and Pepsi Cola all one building. Locals have fond memories of stopping here for cold sodas and candies regularly when it was still open.

  1. The Laurens County Country Store was owned by my grandfather’s brother, Claude Mahon.Claude Mahon’s home was located behind the store. The Mahon Family Cemetery is located across the road and the homestead was located near the cemetery. The Mahon Family donated the land for Rabon Creek Baptist Church many many years ago. Descendants still live in the area.
